A/B testing doesnt need to affect page load times conceptually. You may split the versions on the server-side, so that two versions of a page are being displayed. However, Optimizely, which uses Javascript is completely client-side, and this may add some additional load time onto your pages.

Many businesses use a technology based on javascript that is executed on your visitors browser. The script modifies the source code once the page is loaded. For this to happen, the elements that need to be modified must be loaded first, and this causes a delay.
