SEMrush offers 10 different tools to analyze what your competition is doing.
Domain Overview - This gives you a clear overview of any domain you put in and is a great way to get a bird’s-eye view of what your competitors are doing online. You can analyze their performance on both desktop and mobile, and explore the organic keywords they are ranking for, what keywords they are paying for, their ads, and what backlinks they have required. This is a great place to get started.
Traffic Analytics - In our traffic analytics report, you will be able to identify your competitors’ main traffic source, including uncovering their top referring sites. You will also be able to see what countries their traffic is coming from.
Charts - With the chart tool, you can analyze up to 5 competitors at a time, comparing their traffic and keyword portfolios. These charts are available to export in case you need them in a presentation or want to email them to a client.
Organic Research - This tool dives into the organic rankings of any webpage you put in. It will help you explore their keyword strategies, and you can see not only what they are ranking for, but what position they are in and if they are appearing in any SERP features.
Backlink Analytics - This is a great way to get an in-depth analysis of your competitors’ backlinks. You can explore domains that refer to them, and see the referring domains, IPs, and TLD distribution. It is a great way to identify link building opportunities for yourself. You can also monitor your competitors’ lost links.
Advertising Research - SEMrush also offers a way to peek at your competitors’ advertising campaigns. You can either find who is bidding on relevant keywords or pick a competitor that is bidding national. You will be able to see what keywords they are bidding on, estimated traffic, and see what their advertising history has been, along with the ad copy!
Display Advertising - With Display Advertising, you can see what text and banners your competitors are using and discover the biggest publishers in your niche. This is a great way to find ideas for your display advertising campaign, both on desktop and mobile!
PLA Research - Discover your biggest competitors in Google Shopping ads. You will be able to analyze how they advertise and price their products, and you will be able to see which keywords trigger their products to shop up in the Google Shopping results
Backlink Gap - This is a great tool to analyze who is linking to your competitors, but not yet o you. You will be able to quickly evaluate these websites’ authority to see if it is worth your time for outreach, and you can export the results with just one click.
Keyword Gap - This is a great way to see potentially golden keywords that you may be missing. You can find keywords for SEO, AdWords and PLA campaigns, and you will be able to identify keywords that are targeted by your competitors but not you.
